July Minutes
The Arlee Senior Citizens Center held its regular monthly board meeting on July 12, 2010 before the noon meal at the Center. There was no COA report since the meeting is scheduled for 7/13/10. The Center purchased a new microwave for the kitchen and it is working well. The board was unable to meet with the COA director but the secretary did say that our budget was good and our expenses down. However, we need more people at the meals. We will try again to meet with the director and ask what happens if we have a shortfall this year. The board is planning to distribute a meals survey among the members. The Center made $90.00 from selling baked goods at the Arlee Community play over two performances. The state environmental/health agency performed a 5-year checkup on the Center's water system this month. Everything looked fine although it was recommended that the well head pipe be 18" up from the ground and that the dirt be tapered away from the pipe. The three old vacuums were given away for yard sales. The board was looking in to a heat pump for the Center but with the proposed electric rate hike and a decline in propane rates, this idea will be shelved for awhile.
The Center was able to give the COA $300.00 from sales at the first two farmers market food stands. The Center will have the stand again the first Friday of August and a Sept. date, if we want one. We cleared about $170.00 on the 7/2 farmers market stand. We plan to buy burgers from Rick's for the August stand and also plan to have polish hotdogs which sold well last time. The Center is also considering selling produce from the Senior Garden at the Friday market. The Center was asked if we were interested in selling food at the Ewam peace day on Sunday, 9/5/10. We will find out what other groups plan to be there and what they plan to sell before we make a commitment. Commodities disbursement is scheduled for July 20 and July 21 this month. Commodities can be picked up between 9 am and 1 pm on July 21 at the Center.
Next board meeting is Monday, August 9, 2010 at 11 am before the lunch at the Center.
Volunteers are needed in many areas: as grandparents in school and for the summer, for driving seniors to appointments, for helping to unload the commodities once a month in Polson, and for the Cheerful Hearts (an aid program to the aged and ill) here in Arlee. There are also forms for Living Trusts, Medical Trusts, Living Wills and Commodities list. Other Information: 726-3213.
